Oak Beam Case Study: Starbucks

Starbucks is by far the largest coffee house chain in the world. In 2015, they had more than 23,000 stores worldwide, each one combining the visual aesthetic of the area with distinctive Starbucks decor to present a unified feel across all their stores. Our work for them was part of an upgrade to their prestige store on Conduit Street in Mayfair, London.

What did the project involve?

We worked with specialist shop-fitters, who themselves were liaising closely with the in-house designers for the Starbucks group, to provide a bespoke finished wall product that would form a centrepiece of visual interest throughout the shop.

Our oak was also used structurally in the framework for the central stairs and for the retail compartments dotted around the store.

Where did Oakbeamuk.com excel?

This was a bold and exacting project to be involved with because it required the use of scraped paint to bring out the grain and cut marks of the oak supplied to emphasise its texture and figuring.

This was only achieved after we had supplied numerous different samples that explored the myriad of finish variations available.

What was the overall effect?

The overall effect is unusual and memorable: you know you are in a Starbucks store and yet the feeling is one of extra quality, luxury, and something rather cutting edge.
