profiled oak beams to clad RSJs and other steels

profiled oak beams are beams that have been hollowed out in order to camouflage RSJs. The beam must be at least 7cm (2.5in) wider and deeper than the RSJ so that it retains its strength
once hollow

- profiled beams are generally to order only,   though we carry a limited stock of both   reclaimed and air-dried beams

- there should be a 2.5cm (1") gap between the   profiled beam casing and the RSJ steel

- air-dried beams lend themselves to the profiling   process as they are straight and consistent in
  width along their length

- air-dried oak beams can be aged by smoothing
the edges, or even chamfering and taking some
well  placed 'scallops'out along the beam prior to   being waxed, oiled, whitened or blackened to suit   the particular project

- profiled beams cost from £35 per cubic foot,   plus an additional £35 per cubic foot for the   cutting and hollowing-out process. Cleaning,   de-nailing and finishing costs £17.50 per
  cubic foot. All plus VAT
